Pity Party for One

Have you ever had one of those days, weeks, months where nothing seems to be going right? Activities that used to be very easy aren't and take too long to complete. I feel useless. It takes too long to text back because I can't see the cursor. If I talk to my phone, what it thinks I said is wrong. My siblings and I take care of our mom, and we each have a responsibility. I do the medicines and doctors' appointments. Unfortunately, that may be changing in the future because I can't see the pills easily, and I won't be able to drive. I serve others. I like taking care of others. If I can't do the simplest of those things, what good am I?

Enter Pity Party for One....Do you know that song? Nobody loves me; Everybody hates me; Think I'll go eat worms....  I won't do the next part because it's gross.

We all have pity parties and that's ok. However, we shouldn't linger there. We shouldn't set up residence, buy furniture, and change our addresses. We have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, adjust to our new realities, and enjoy life. Establish friendships with those who will pull you away from the Pity Party, who will pray for you, who will just sit and listen.

This evening I was trying to get home, I was feeling pretty low. I saw the sweetest thing when I drove up. My husband had put down road reflectors on each side of the driveway. One of my challenges is not being able to see our driveway at dusk. Who wants to crash into a tree in your driveway or off the embankment? It made my day. It's the simple gestures that mean the most.

Today's Bible verse on my app: "Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise." James 5:13 NIV

I have left the Pity Party and have moved on. Refreshments were lacking, and the music was boring.

I'm ready to tackle another day and another challenge.
