Hindsight is 20/20, or is it?

"Hindsight is 20/20" is a phrase that has been around for a long time. It's supposed to mean that we can see better the things in the past. But...I disagree. Sometimes, we may see things more clearly, but we may also make those situations look far better than what they really were.

If we keep looking in the rearview mirror of life, we miss all the wonderful opportunities for growth, discipleship, and friendship. If we fixate on all that was lost, we do not give others the chance to become an important part of our lives. We don't give ourselves the time for healing, for seeking God's Word, for using our experiences to help others. By living in the rearview mirror, we can become bitter and isolated.

Using the health issues of my parents (rearview mirror experience), I was making sure no health issues would sneak up behind me and bite me in the rear. I was going to be prepared. HA HA...I wasn't prepared for the vison loss because no one in the family had this problem. I asked my eye specialist if my daughter and granddaughter needed to be tested. He stated no. No one knows what triggered the gene or the enzyme. You can live with the birdshot chorioretinopathy gene and never have any problems. So...don't waste the time or funds.

If I keep looking in the rearview mirror for hints that I was going to lose my vision, I will go crazy. There were no hints, no clues, no neon marquee lights flashing. It just happened.

Instead, I'm looking straight ahead and straight up. I definitely do not have 20/20 vision for what is in front of me, but I do for what is above. God is in control, good days and bad.

"Set your minds on things that are above, not on thing that are on earth." Colossians 3:2

If we constantly look in the rearview mirror, figuratively and literally, we will crash and burn. Don't miss out on what is right in from of you before it is too late, physically or spiritually. Our funerals are too late to think, "I wish I had..."

"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14
